Animators and game industry professionals across Canada’s Atlantic coast are gearing up for the Jalloo 2017 Conference and Animation Festival, 15-17 June. Cold Furnace Studios will sponsor the event for the third year running, adding a third speaker to its lineup of presenters. Also new to the event this year will be an open house for the general public, including contests and games.

Cold Furnace Chief Military Advisor, Mark Wheeler, will return to present on Military Sciences in game development, and Jeff Mundee, the company’s Design Lead, will speak on live-ops in game design. Chief Executive Officer Lori Shepherd will also speak at Jalloo for the first time this year, on game security, including anti-cheating, piracy, data security and software security in game development.

“We’re looking forward to all kinds of stories and practical information on game security to delight and scare our developers,” joked Mr McGee. “Cold Furnace has been one of our huge supporters, and we’re thrilled to have Lori presenting this year.”

Jalloo, which launched in 2008, is part conference, part festival and part job fair. Besides bringing together professionals in the animation and gaming industries for workshops and presentations, the event also includes a reverse job fair with student showcases, an arcade and a 24-hour game jam for participants.

“We try to celebrate the sheer joy of building games and animation just as an art form and as something we enjoy doing,” said Mr. McGee. “It’s a fun event and a great business development opportunity.”

Cold Furnace puts it’s own twist on the annual event, taking it fireside. While attending Jalloo, its team members bond at the local campgrounds and chat around the campfire.

“We believe strongly in fostering and supporting local game development,” said Ms Shepherd. “Jalloo is a great event that encourages a collaborative community in what can be a tight-lipped industry.”

Jalloo takes place in Miramichi, New Brunswick. The Bell Fund, which encourages and funds the creation and development of leading Canadian digital/TV multi-platform projects, is a major sponsor.
